About Us
We publish a free, modern browser version of Spades — the classic four-player partnership trick-taking game — with real bidding, Nil, and a layout that works on any screen.
Our craft
Bid it. Take it. Bag it.
Count your hand, trust your partner, and beat your bid without piling up bags. That loop is everything we design around.

What we make
spadesgame.app is the site behind our version of Spades. The product is a four-player partnership card game: bid the tricks you expect to take, play all 13 tricks of the hand with spades as permanent trump, and score against your team's combined bid.
We are not an app-store publisher and there is nothing to download. The game is the website. That keeps load times short, works on phones and desktops alike, and avoids an account wall — and because your partner and both opponents are computer players, there is no lobby and no wait for a fourth player. Matches played, streaks, and best scores live in local browser storage on your device.
If you are comparing this to another Spades site, this page only speaks for spadesgame.app. The rules and scoring described in our how-to-play guide and FAQ match this exact build.
Our story
Spades is one of the most-played partnership card games in North America. We treat that as a responsibility to get the rules exactly right and the friction as close to zero as we can.
Spades was developed in the United States in the 1930s, drawing on the trick-taking and trump mechanics of Whist and Bridge but stripping away Bridge's auction and honours scoring for something faster and easier to pick up.
The game spread through college dormitories and, notably, through the U.S. military during and after the Second World War, where a fast partnership game that only needed a deck of cards and four players thrived. By the mid-20th century it was a staple of casual card nights across North America.
spadesgame.app is an independent, modern implementation of that same ruleset, seated against three computer opponents so you never need to wait for a fourth player. The rules are unchanged; what is new is a rendering that fits a phone screen, synthesized sound with a real mute, and a bidding flow that includes a genuine Blind Nil option.
What we stand for
Open the page and a match is ready to deal. No account wall, no download, no waiting in a lobby for a fourth player — your partner and two opponents are already seated.
Standard bidding, standard Nil and Blind Nil rules, standard bag and sandbag scoring, first to 500 wins. Nothing is gated behind a "pro" toggle and nothing nags you to install an app.
Matches played and won, your win streak, best winning score, and Nil record live on your device. We do not hold your record hostage behind a login, because there is no login.
The whole game is free forever. No energy meters, no interstitial video ads between hands, no surprise paywall on bidding or scoring.
Who it is for
spadesgame.app is a family-friendly, four-player game played entirely against computer opponents. A poor fit if you want to chat with human teammates in real time; a good fit if you want the real game of Spades — bidding, Nil, and all — the moment you open a browser tab.
A single hand takes a few minutes; a full match to 500 points can run twenty or more hands. Spades is built for a phone on the couch or a long browser session between tasks.
There is no timer forcing a move. The challenge is counting your hand accurately, reading what has already been played, and working with a partner you cannot directly talk to.
Your record stays on the device you played on. That is a deliberate trade: instant play and real privacy, with no cloud restore.
Why this site
Spades has plenty of implementations online. This one exists to ship a single honest, fast version — correct rules, real partnership play, and no clutter.
You are always seated with a computer partner against two computer opponents — never a bare single-player variant with the team rules stripped out.
Both are first-class: a genuine pre-bid choice to gamble on Blind Nil before your hand is revealed, scored at double the usual Nil swing, exactly as the standard rules describe.
No auto-playing video, no fake "download our app" banners, no dark patterns around the settings. The how-to-play guide and FAQ describe this exact engine, not a generic write-up.
How we build
The game runs entirely on the web: fast loads, tap or click controls, and progress that stays local unless you clear your browser data. We use lightweight analytics to see what helps players — never to gate the game behind a profile. The engine on the home page is the one described on our rules pages, so search results and the live game never drift apart.
Phone, tablet, and desktop share one table. Tap or click to bid and play, or use the keyboard shortcuts for your hand and mute.
Matches played and won, current and longest win streak, best winning score, and your Nil record are stored locally. You own the continuity of your record without signing up.
We watch aggregate usage through Google Analytics to improve pacing and polish. Details are in our Privacy Policy — never as a sales pitch.
